Why War with Iraq?
Why are we in this war? The logic that we are enforcing US resolutions is not valid. Neither is that Iraq is more dangerous than North Korea. That there is danger is true, but that carries little
weight internationally. Freeing the Iraqi people is a by-product of
regime?? change, not the cause to go to war. The principle of preemptive attack is new to Americans and opposed by others. The unmade case for war case is the reason there is opposition.. Many things go into a decision, but considering the above reasons as only minor contributors, we must seek other, more compelling reasons. These include:
With US troops in Afghanistan and now in Iraq, we have Iran accessible from three sides. Iraq had all but defeated Iran in a long war in the 1980s. We have defeated Iraq twice since. Iran, an axis-of-evil country, should pay close attention to ending support of world terrorism -- one way or another.
Why Iraq first? It is a more compact country, and they tried to
assassinate our President, W's father.
Iraq, under US led sanctions, was leading the middle east oil
cartel against the US dollar in favor of the Euro with the support of
their business partner and leader of the EU, France. Now we can see both why we must breakup the attack on the US as leader of the world's reserve currency. And this is why France led the opposition.
Control of (or ongoing influence on) Iraq's international trade will weaken economic forces that oppose US dominance. It will hamper any move to the Euro to replace US as international currency and will strengthen US influence where
international cartels (Oil, EU) have joined to reduce our influence
where democracy, free enterprise, freedom of religion, speech,
and bill of rights are considered a threat.
These issues are too complex to fit into sound bites and would
inflame those who think the US standards of living and freedom should be reduced to that of the world averages However, success begats support -- witness that Turkey and France are now agreeing to US needs.
Immediately after this was written, UPI issued a
story that Iran was prepared to sent paramilitary to Shiite areas to
disrupt the US occupation. WSJ article says Syria will not wait until their turns to act. The provocation of each country to feel the weight of vengeance will be attacks on Americans in Iraq. A rational government would not encourage assault on Americans; irrational governments are to be replaced by the Bush doctrine.
The Muslim world has two major factions: Most of that world's Muslims are Sunni. The other is Shiite where Iran is mostly Shi'a. They make up a suppressed majority in Iraq where the Saddam government is Sunni. The Shi'a, are the people that we are supposed to be freeing with an expectation that they will feel appreciation towards us. Iran wants to maintain influence in Iraq through the Shi'a connection. Overthrowing the Sunni in Iraq is not conducive to world wide, majority Sunni opinion. It gets complicated and risks are high.
