Feb 12. Saipan (LHA 2) offloads equipment for Seabees and USAR MPs deploying to Haiti for 90 days to build schoolhouses, water wells and provide medical assistance in hurricane-ravaged areas. This gives an opportunity for U.S. forces to refine engineering and medical skills while helping the people of Haiti.
Feb 10. Kitty Hawk (CV 63) (2-CG+DD) departed Yokosuka, Japan, Feb. 10, joined by Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, for a scheduled winter underway period.
Feb 9 . Essex (LHD-2) assets moved 5,971,000 million pounds of relief supplies to devastated areas of Indonesia from Jan. 18 until Feb. 8 ; will continue thru monthend.
More than 13,000 U.S. Navy, Marine, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard service members involved.
