Mar 5 . John F. Kennedy Carrier Strike Group (CSG) pre-deployment training began Feb. 21 and is scheduled to run through mid-March. Units involved are Kennedy (CV 67), Vicksburg (CG 69), Roosevelt (DDG 80), Spruance (DD 963), Toledo (SSN 769), fast combat support ship Seattle (AOE 3), and Carrier Air Wing 17.
This is the third group to use targeting locations along the East and Gulf Coast : Townsend, Ga.; Pinecastle, Fla.; Avon Park, Fla.; Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.; Piney Island, N.C.; and Dare County, N.C.

Feb 17. Expeditionary Strike Group 2 will deploy consisting of Wasp (LHD-1), Shreveport (LPD-12), Whidbey (LSD-41), Leyte Gulf (CG-55), Yorktown (CG-48), McFaul (DDG-74), Connecticut (SSN-22), and 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Jan 20. George Washington (CVN-73) strike group to deploy with Carrier Wing 7 and Vella Gulf (CG-72), Bulkeley (DD-84), Albany (SSN-753), USNS Supply (T-AOE-6), to be joined by HMCS Toronoto (FF). They will replace the
Enterprise Group that has been in the Gulf since August'03.
Jan 14. Boxer (LHD-4) departs San Diago to take equipment of 1st Marine Expeditionary Force to support Iraqi Freedom II force rotation. Bataan (LHD-5) will perform a similar mission leaving the 19th from Norfolk. The Marines will
travel by air in the spring. Both ships are expected to return in April. [pic Boxer] Military Sealift Command (MSC) is also involved : Rollon/Rolloff ships Cape Island, Cape Intrepid, and others have been manned to move 9 million square feet of war materiel during the Iraq troop rotation --that's equal to 95,000 sport utility vehicles.
