The U.S. submarine war reaches its peak. Production allows christening of 121 new Balao class subs. The defects with torpedoes are solved. Japanese fleet is starved of oil and relocates the fleet to countries nearer to the supply of oil.
The B-29 bomber enters service to attack the Japanese home islands. Flying first from China then transferring to Tinian (Marianans). Industrial cities are methodically destroyed.
